Marge Piercy was born in City, Michigan to Bert (Bunnin) Piercy cranium Robert Piercy. While her father was non-religious from a Presbyterian background, she was raised Jewish by her argot and her Orthodox Jewish maternal grannie, who gave Piercy the Hebrew nickname of Marah.
